Public Service Building Control Awards
A new set of awards for a new decade
Should we have Awards for people in our network? Some say it’s unfair to spotlight a few individuals and that it’s unfair to others who also do a good job.
However, we think public service building control needs better understanding – not least in local authorities – and that the status of our work and our posts should be radically enhanced. It’s good to publicly acknowledge good colleagues and good work, especially if it helps improve the understanding and appreciation of elected members and senior local authority managers. It’s part of the long term objectives to improve status, recruitment and developing people, teams and resources.
Going forward, LABC’s focus will be on standards, quality, learning and validating competence to compliment and anticipate the new building safety regime and other building control changes. So as well as our member awards identifying individual ‘stars’ we also want wider team recognition where there is exemplary delivery of public service building control. So we’re changing the name of the awards to the Public Service Building Control Awards celebrating “Exemplary delivery of public safety, protection and best practice by local authority teams and individuals”.
So starting immediately, awards will be made for:

All nominations for ‘Rising Stars’ and ‘Superstars’ are still valid and will be included in this year’s Members’ Awards. In addition we will look for entries for teams and individuals in the new categories too. It may be that not all these categories will be awarded – it is dependent on LABC receiving good nominations. However, we really hope there will be deserving winners every year!
